Kent Reliance goes dotty for Demelza Hospice Care for Children
09 Jun 2015

In support of Demelza's 'Go Dotty Week' Kent Reliance will be raising money for the appeal at their Head Office and in branches.

Following last year’s success, the team at Kent Reliance took part in a day of activities as part of Demelza’s annual fundraising week, with the executives donning their aprons once again to see who would be crowned ‘Star Baker’ for the second year.

Andy Golding, Chief Executive, OneSavings Bank, baked up a treat to attempt to retain his title, however this year the judges chose John Eastgate, Sales and Marketing Director, to be awarded for his particularly flavoursome lemon drizzle cake.

The array of cakes were then offered to staff to taste for a small donation in one of the many fundraising activities the Kent-based bank organised at Reliance House, with the day culminating with a quiz evening at The Roffen Club, Rochester. Teams from the head office and the Kent branches competed over six rounds of questions, whilst taking part in raffles with some prizes donated from the Kent Messenger Group.

Whilst donations are still being contributed, the team at Kent Reliance have so far managed to raise £2585. All donations will go to provide funding for Demelza’s full time nurses at the charity’s hospice at Sittingbourne.

Andy said: “Go Dotty is a fun way to support a great cause, and we’re delighted with all the effort and support shown by the team at Kent Reliance for this special local charity. The executive team enjoyed showing everyone our baking skills, even if I am still disappointed that I didn’t win. The quiz night was also a great fun way for our staff to raise money.”

Andy added, “Although we do have fun whilst raising money for Demelza, we take our work in the local community very seriously. We fully support the remarkable work performed by the charity and the crucial care they provide for life-limited and life-threatened children, young people, and their families. We know that the charity wouldn’t be able to function without the help and support of those in the community, and we are proud to support Demelza as one of our key charity partners so they can continue providing the best possible care.”

Natalie Tegg, Demelza’s Head of Partnerships, said, “Once again the team at Kent Reliance have been fantastic in supporting our Go Dotty week. The cakes for the bake off looked amazing, and the quiz night was a great added touch to put some competitive fun into their Go Dotty day. I would like to thank all Kent Reliance staff who contributed to making such a positive difference for everyone here at Demelza. All monies raised will go to funding the full time nurses who look after the children at the hospice near Sittingbourne as part of our ‘Adopt a Nurse’ programme.”
